The "Winged Express" is no doubt the most famous AA Fuel Altered around because of the One-Handed driving style of Wild Willie Borsch.
Wild Willie Borsch and lifelong friend and car owner Al "Mousie" Marcellus campaigned the "Wing" successfully for almost 3 decades. Shortly after "Wild Willie's" passing in 1991 Mousie recreated the "Winged Express" in honor of "Willie".
In 1994 Mousie's recreation effort was complete and ready for exhibition, however he still had the daunting task of filling the seat that only a legend filled before. This was no easy task by any stretch. Mousie believes it was at this moment in time when "Willie" interjected his input from beyond.
Mike (the "Nitro Warrior") Boyd and friend Darrell Conrad had paid a visit to friend John Zenda (NHRA's Museum Coordinator) at the Long Beach Memorial hospital just days prior to his passing. There visiting John also was racing legends Steve Gibbs and Al Marcellus.
John introduced everyone and told Mousie (pointing at Mike), this is your new driver. It was like magic and the rest as they say is history. From that day forth Mike has respectfully kept the memory of "Wild Willie" and the legend of the "Winged Express" alive and well.
Today, with Mike behind the wheel of this "nitro gulping, fire belching, ground pounding beast”, the "Wing" still blazes down the quarter mile at tracks all across America at speeds in excess of 200 mph; in just over 7 seconds.
Even now "Wild Willie" still travels with the car and crew in an urn that resembles a trophy.
